Write a list of all the good things that have happened to you.

Writer's picture: Preethi Preethi

So many times we tend to focus on all the bad things that have happened within a day, week, month, or even year. Yes, unfavorable circumstances and situations occur, but they are all part of a normal and healthy life. That is why it is so important that during these times we reflect on all the good that has happened in our lives.

It is easier to remember when you have already written them down. So if you have not started a journal or list with all the moments, people, or things that have brought you joy, I strongly suggest you do so. For me, I do this so I can remember to thank God for all he has given me. It is so important to be thankful and mindful even when things aren't going your way. It can be as simple as listing people in your life. Those you have met while traveling, your family members, or your elementary school friends whom even though you have little or no contact. For example, you remember that time a stranger let you sit at their table so you wouldn't be all alone.

I write the things that I am most proud of. One of them was winning the first 5K race I ever ran. Believe me it was a miracle. There is no way I would place first female in any 5K race again. It was solely God trying to make me realize that I should be proud of the hard work I put into my high school years of running.

You don't have to write them down all at one go. Once you begin, you will slowly start to remember those great things that happened to you from years ago and you will realize that even though you may be in a time of unhappiness and distress, you had and will always have more good in your life than bad.
