What are you window shopping for?

Window shopping: the activity of looking at goods displayed in shop windows, especially without intending to buy anything.

Does anyone else feel like the past year has been a whole lot of window shopping?

Meaning, we are in a place where we are just envisioning what we can and will be, but not getting our hands on the materials, support, and or people we need to get to that place.

I heard this term so many times growing up but I didn't know what it meant until a few years ago.

When I did understand, I recalled the number of times I had gone inside a store because of how the outside of it looked, and or if there was something on display that was too beautiful not to see up close.

The first store that came to mind was the Disney Store inside the mall. First off, that store plays beautiful Disney music that seeps into the walkway of the mall, so I was immediately drawn to it. Then the whole environment within the store is completely captivating; it brought me back to my childhood. The bright and intense colors of the floors and walls, the plush toys of my childhood favorite characters, not to mention the awesome sweatshirts and clothing they have - so pretty much the best store in the mall. The only problem is the price. One plush toy is like $30, forget the clothes.

I remember the first time I walked into the store, I was awestruck and my heart was content. I saw a piece of clothing that I liked but when I checked the price tag - I immediately drew back.

I then realized I shouldn't be in the store because there was no way I could go around just looking at everything knowing that I couldn't buy it.

I soon left the store disheartened because it had so much potential but it was just way too overpriced.

I usually don't go into stores if I don't intend to buy anything, but recently since I started living in the city (pre covid) I would go into shops just to look around.

I mean hello NYC is the heart of window shopping.

I wanted to bring this back to the window shopping we do in our personal lives. Does anyone else feel like the past year has been a whole lot of window shopping?

I sure feel like Covid put me outside of a beautiful store that I need to get into. But I do not have sufficient funds to even open the door. I wanted to address this not just for myself but for those who may be feeling the same way.

What is preventing you from getting the people and support you need?

Why are finances such an obstacle right now and how can we make them not so hard to take care of?

Thinking about these questions made me think about how much I have made "Covid" an excuse. An excuse to move slower in my life (education and career-wise) I had been taking a little too much time living in the moment instead of planning and focusing on what lies ahead.

Sure we all need to take time to just live in the present, but there is a point where too much “current” living gets comfortable and we then may stop even thinking about the future being right at our door.

Now I’m at a place where I have so much on my plate it is overwhelming because the world is still going on and moving at quite a fast pace, while I was extending my time slowing down and living in the present.

I now learned my lesson which is why I’m writing this in the first place. Do not put off your goals and plans just because things are not as “physically open” as they were before. The virtual world is full of opportunities that will allow you to still stay on track with your prospective plans. It just may require you to ask or find additional resources/people to help you get there.

What is on the other side of the window you’re looking through?

Don’t you want to be able to stop looking through the window and just open the door already?

Now, I don't know about you but I'm going to get that plush toy from the Disney store asap.

I hope this struck something and or motivated you to get on top of things!

As always, stay happy, healthy, and blessed.
